Jordan re-elected to UN Human Rights Council |

New York, May 13 (Petra)-Jordan was re-elected Wednesday for a three-year term to UN Human Rights Council from 2009 to 2012.
The UN General Assembly elected 18 countries as members of the UN human right body at its 63rd session.
Jordan won 179 votes ranking the first among the Asian States group and the second among regional groups.
Re-electing Jordan reaffirmed the kingdom's commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights and its cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the UN system made up of 47 States responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe.
The Council was created by the UN General Assembly on 15 March 2006 with the main purpose of addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them.
