Amman, Nov.
17 (Petra) -- Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania on Tuesday met with a delegation from the American Jewish Congress, and discussed steps needed to overcome obstacles to a quick resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks on the basis of the two-state solution.
The King stressed that peace was a strategic interest for the Middle East and the whole world and needed an intensified international effort to find the appropriate atmosphere for progress towards a comprehensive peace that guarantees the rights of all parties and opens new scopes for development and accomplishment for the region's peoples.
His Majesty emphasised the need for American Jewish organizations to take an effective role in support of international efforts to bring about peace that fulfills Palestinian people's aspirations, particularly the right to an independent state, and provides security to Israel.
He said the Arab peace initiative offers an unprecedented opportunity for peace between Israel and all Arab and Muslim states that support the plan.
The King warned that missing the opportunity for peace now at hand would deepen despair and push the region toward further tension and confrontation that would deprive all the region's states and peoples from the right to live in peace and its repercussions would affect the whole world as well.
