Princess Ghida inaugurates KHCC’s Medical Library
[26/03/2009 17:26]
Amman, March 26 (Petra)-- Under the patronage of HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and in recognition of the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) ongoing significant support to KHCF, a ceremony was held today at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) to dedicate KHCC’s Medical Library in USAID’s honor.

USAID has been a long time partner of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation.

Since 2006, USAID has dedicated significant financial support to the King Hussein Cancer Foundation.

The most generous donation from USAID to date was the sum of $15 million and was dedicated to fund KHCC’s much-needed expansion plans, to support the breast cancer screening program and to boost the Iraqi Goodwill Fund which help cover the treatment costs of under-privileged Iraqi patients.

As the Medical Library is such a vital, valuable and well-utilized resource for the medical community in the fight against cancer, it was chosen to honor USAID’s commitment to supporting KHCC and KHCF.

This King Hussein Cancer Center’s USAID Medical Library gives access to the largest medical online resources in the world.

Linked to the videoconferencing library of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), KHCC doctors can virtually attend all conferences held in the USA (both in real time and recorded) in the comfort of this state-of-the-art library at the press of a button.

In terms of important medical references, the online medical library boasts over 5000 electronic medical journals, 15 databases, and 3500 books which one can download online.

KHCC’s USAID Medical Library and its essential resources are open to doctors, patients and healthcare providers from all over the kingdom as well as to members of the general public.

The library receives approximately 2000 visitors per month.

In a ceremony to mark the library’s dedication, HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, presented USAID’s Mr.

Jay Knott with a plaque in recognition of USAID’s support and thanked USAID representatives by saying, "Thank you for your confidence in us and for recognizing the hard work and immense efforts of KHCF and KHCC to maintain KHCC as one of the best comprehensive cancer centers in the Middle East region.

Your immense support has allowed us to maintain excellence in cancer care, bolster breast cancer awareness and research and provide crucial cancer care to Iraqi patients.

This partnership with USAID is a testament to the best of America and its proven ability to be an unequivocal force for good in the lives of so many ordinary people".

Princess Ghida also thanked the US Embassy in Amman, the Ministry of Planning and HE Mrs.

Suhair al Ali, for their unwavering support of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center over the years.
