UNDP's regional director visits Jordan
Amman, Mar. 1 (Petra) -- Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and Assistant Administrator and Regional Director of the UNDP, Mourad Wahba, arrived in Jordan for discussions on ways to strengthen the partnership between the UNDP and Jordan, and to reiterate UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom's development efforts.

The UN official is set to meet with government officials, UNDP development Partners/Donors, and UNDP Senior management and staff members, both at the UNDP Bureau for Arab States Regional Hub, and The UNDP Country Office.

The discussions will focus on the UNDP support to the Jordan Response Plan to the Syria crisis, which adopts a holistic approach bringing together humanitarian and development through a resilience lens, and on building resilience within the host communities.

The visit also comes to thank the government of Jordan for the deep partnership and to thank the development partners and donors on their generous financial support to UNDP’s program.

Wahba will reiterate the commitment of UNDP to continuing supporting the government of Jordan in its national planning processes, particularly with regard to support to the decentralization different aspects, including elections, the Sustainable Development Goals, and in the overall building of national capacities.

Mr. Wahba will be accompanied during his meetings with Mr. David McLachlan-Karr, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative, and Ms. Sara Ferrer Olivella, UNDP Country Director in Jordan.

Wahba was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in November of 2016 and assumed duties on 1 February 2017.
