Kabariti: Trade activity in 2017 was less than previous years
Image
Amman, Jan. 13 (Petra)--Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Nael Kabariti said that economic activity in the Kingdom in 2017 was less compared to the years 2016 and 2015, noting that all trade sectors experienced a slowdown last year.
Kabariti said in a press meeting that the declining purchasing power of citizens led to a trade slowdown, but there were positive indicators last year such an the increase in exports compared to recent years.
"Despite the unstable conditions in the region, Jordan has been able to open new markets and resumed exports to Iraq," he said, noting that exports are expected to rise in 2018 and 2019.
On his expectations for economic activity this year, the ACC chairman said the situation will not remain the same this year and will hopefully be more positive compared to 2017, stressing the need to search for new alternatives to activate trade and enhance economic growth.
