Jordan opens camp for Syrian refugees at weekend
Mafraq, Feb 12 (Petra) -- Jordan opens at the weekend a refugee camp on its territory for Syrian refugees fleeing escalating violence in their country, Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation JHCO Secretary General Ahmad Emyan announced on Sunday.
He told Petra on the phone that infrastructure, including paved roads, had been in place at the site near the northern city of Mafraq which had been supplied with lighting and water facilities to accommodate the displaced people.
Emyan said the camp's opening had been delayed because healthcare services had not been available for the families crossing the border into the Kingdom, adding that medical services will be provided in the next two days.
He said the camp will receive families expected to arrive in the next period, adding that the charity had rented homes for 700 Syrian families in various areas of Mafraq and distributed aid to them.
Emyan said JHCO will sign deals with Jordanian civil society organisations to regulate fund-raising efforts for the refugee families, and only the charity would take charge of the aid handouts. //Petra//SS
