| Taba-Aqaba tourist line re-opens
| | |
Taba, Sept. 30 (Petra) -- The Taba-Aqaba tourist maritime line was re-opened yesterday, following 18-month closure.
Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil, who patronized the re-opening, said the line would serve the two countries' tourism interests, as more than 250,000 tourists use the route annually, generating about $250 million of revenues for both countries.
The Egyptian premier called on the private sector in both countries to enhance partnership and promote their tourism products in order to bolster tourism revenues and enhance tourists' movement between the two countries.
Jordanian Minister of Tourism Nayef Al Fayez, who attended the ceremony, said the route's closure had negative impact on tourism between Aqaba and Taba. The minister valued relaunching the route, stressing its role in supporting the two countries' economies and tourism revenues.
The tourism maritime line between Aqaba and the Egyptian resort of city of Taba was closed by Egypt in accordance with a sovereign decision. Throughout the closure, the Jordanian concerned authorities were following up with the Egyptian side to ensure the reopening of the route.
