Iraqi opposition MP survives assassination attempt
Baghdad, Oct 13 (Petra) -- A member of Iraq's parliament and an outspoken critic of the government of Prime Minister Nouri Maliki on Saturday survived an assassination attempt West of the capital Baghdad.
A senior police officer told Petra's Baghdad reporter that an explosive device targeting the motorcade of MP Ahmad Olwani of the opposition Iraqiya Coalition led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi went off on the international highway 20 KM West of the capital, seriously wounding two of his guards. There has been a marked rise in attacks on motorcades of Iraqi government and security officials recently amid deep mistrust in the country's political system.
