Hikma Pharmaceutical receives IFC Leadership Award
 
Amman,Oct.20(Petra)-Jordan's leading Pharmaceutical Company Hikma (PLC) received the 2012 Client Leadership Award of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), for commitment to environmentally and socially sustainable development.

According to a PLC statement ,the company received the award during the annual meeting held recently in Tokyo ,which brought together the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund .

During the ceremony, IFC CEO and Executive Vice President Jin-Yong Cai presented the award to Hikma Vice Chairman and CEO of the Middle East and North Africa region Mazen Darwazah.

According to the statement ,the award recognizes companies that show a commitment to sustainable development, innovation, operational excellence, and strong corporate governance.

Headquartered in Jordan, Hikma has more than 6,500 employees and sales in some 50 countries. A the Middle East’s biggest pharmaceutical manufacturer, it was recognized for providing affordable, life-saving medicine to people around the world. It was also lauded for its strong corporate governance and internal efforts that support female workers, encourage recycling, and provide internships to young Jordanians.

This award is a testament to the work we have done over the last 30 years to turn Hikma into a world-class company," Darwazah said ,adding that "winning the award also shows that companies which focus on sustainable development must achieve success" .

Cai lauded Hikma distinguished work saying it is not only providing affordable medicines to millions, but it is also setting the standard for corporate social responsibility in the Middle East and North Africa.

"Our partnership of more than 20 years with Hikma demonstrates how the private sector can spark change in the region and make a difference in people’s lives", the IFC official added.

Founded in Jordan in 1978 ,Hikma is a fast growing multinational group that focuses on developing, manufacturing, and marketing a broad range of both branded and non-branded generic and licensed products. Hikma's branded business is focused principally in MENA region, where it is a market leader, as well as the United States, and Europe. In 2011, Hikma achieved revenues of $918 million and a profit attributable to shareholders of $80.3 million.
