PM lays foundation stone for new Amman Customs Center

Amman, March. 20 (Petra) -- Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister, Hani al-Mulki, on Monday, laid the foundation stone for the new Amman Customs Center project in the Madhonah district, southeast of Amman, at a cost of about JOD93 million, funded by the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF).

The project will be implemented by the government in partnership with the private sector, according to the Leasing Ending with Ownership funding. It also constitutes an important and strategic developmental project, which would attract investments to the Eastern Amman area and improve traffic after moving the customs center from its current location.

The prime minister gave a briefing on the new aspects adopted by the government in implementing strategic projects, pointing out that this project is characterized by its geographical location in an area that needs development and investments.

Al Mulki said the government has amended the public works system to stimulate Jordanian companies and youth to work in construction projects. Accordingly; at least 100 Jordanian engineers and 300 technicians and workers must work in this particular project, as part of the cooperation in employment between the public and the private sectors.

The ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, officials, members of parliaments and public figures.
