Amman, Jan. 3 (Petra) -- A slight rise in temperatures is forecast on Wednesday, but cold weather will continue in the hilly areas and the Badia regions, while it will be pleasant in the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley with low clouds in the northern and central parts of the Kingdom.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), frost formation is also forecast at night in the Badia regions and high mountains. Winds will be southwesterly moderate to brisk.

On Thursday, temperatures will drop again, creating cold and partly cloudy weather with a chance for showers in the western areas of the country, while winds will be southwesterly moderate to brisk, the JMD said.

The Kingdom will be affected on Friday by a cold air mass, accompanied by a depression centered over east of Cyprus causing a further drop in temperatures and creating cold and cloudy conditions with rainfall in the northern and central areas, extending to other parts of the country, the JMD added.

Heavy rain is forecast at times, and may be accompanied by thunder, lightning and hail. Winds will be southwesterly brisk with strong gusts, blowing dust in the Badia regions, the department noted.

Temperatures expected in Amman and the northern areas for today will hover around 13 degrees Celsius dropping down to 8 and 4 degrees respectively. In the port city of Aqaba, mercury levels will record 22 degrees during the day, sliding to 9 degrees at night.
