Amman, May 16 (Petra)-Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Emad Fakhoury said Jordan is looking forward to benefiting largely from the opportunities that will result from participation in the Belt and Road Initiative launched by China, especially in view of the Kingdom's strategic position in the region.

The minister's remarks came during a seminar held by the Chinese Embassy in Amman yesterday evening attended by participants in the China-based training courses, seminars and workshops over the past years within the framework of Chinese foreign aid.

The event aimed to learn from those participants' experiences in a bid to develop cooperation relations between the two sides in the field of human resources development.

During the gathering, Fakhouri expressed his appreciation to the Chinese government for increasing the number of training courses, seminars and annual workshops provided to Jordan within the Chinese human resources training programs and for expanding seats allocated to Jordanian trainees.

China is the largest supporter of training programs for the development of human resources in Jordan. The number of participants from various Jordanian ministries and institutions who have had the opportunity to visit China to participate in training programs during the last seven years 2011-2017 hit 1070, in addition to 3 employees greenlighted to benefit from the program of grants of the Ministry of Commerce to complete their higher studies at Chinese universities in 2017, a number expected to increase during 2018 by 25 percent compared to the previous year.

Chinese Ambassador, Pan Weifang, for his part, stressed China's commitments in the framework of strategic relations between the two countries to continually provide Jordan with training programs, and announced his country has launched new training programs.

He said around 2000 Jordanian officials and technicians participated in training programs over the past years in the framework of training programs provided by China, and noted 304 people went to attend the training programs in 2017, whereby China has thus become largest provider of human resources training in Jordan, a step that has enhanced joint cooperation.

China is aware of the burdens on the Jordanian economy as a result of hosting Syrian refugees. The Chinese government has provided 60 million Chinese yuan in humanitarian aid to the refugees and provided other instruments of economic assistance, including improving water, sanitation and roads services, Weifang pointed out.

The Chinese government will maintain its strategic partnership with Jordan, enhance cooperation in all fields, including the human resources development, and contribute to Jordan's social and economic development, Weifang said.
