PM meets Christian leaders on Easter Sunday
Amman, May 5 (Petra) – Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour wished Jordanian Christians a happy Easter on behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah as he met Christian leaders during visits to the Roman Orthodox Patriarchate in Amman, a cultural centre in Fuheis and an Orthodox charity in Salt.

Ensour highlighted the values of tolerance and amity as a main feature of the one Jordanian society, adding that the Hashemites, who have an elevated Islamic religious status, also have the duty of looking after Christians and providing a climate of religious freedom for them.

He said the coexistence that brings together Muslims and Christians in Jordan has become a role model "among the spectra of the one people who all enjoy Hashemite care", calling for safeguarding these bonds and not tolerating any tampering with them.

"We all have to learn a lesson from what has taken place in many regional states. Let's not allow evil to begin. Sedition starts in a country for one reason and ends for another. We will survive, thanks to these bonds that bring us together, and the values of justice on which religions stand," he said, In a message read on his behalf, Metropolitan Benedictos of Philadelphia said Christianity is an indivisible part of the social fabric, calling on all Jordanians "to close ranks and rally behind our Hashemite leadership to stand up to all challenges the entire region is going through." He added that Christians are praying for the release of Aleppo bishops Boulos Yazigi and Yuhanna Ibrahim, who were kidnapped in Syria and are still being held by their abductors.
